2/19/08 Our Lexington Studio will be closed this week on Wednesday and Thursday due to a family emergency. We will be open regular business hours on Friday. Thank you for your understanding. 1/6/08 It is a new year here at Tattoo Charlie’s (and everywhere else for that matter) and we are excited to see what it brings. 2007 was personally a great and terrible year for me. My wife and I had our first child in April, Zelda Marianna, and she is a true delight. My father, Tattoo Charlie, passed away after a very sudden illness. Several friends also passed away this year including one of Dads friends of many years, Fat Joe in Chicago. 2008 will be a tough year to get through without Charlie’s guidance and good natured ribbing. No one was better at setting up a joke or letting you know you messed up. He was also the first one to offer help if you were in need. We are all going to continue his legacy here at the studio and in our personal lives. He was a true giant among us and is still missed every day.

11/17/07 Thank you to everyone for your support over the last few months, we are honored to be carrying on Charlie’s legacy in Louisville and Lexington. Tattoo Charlie’s was founded in 1973 and is still family owned and operated. In 2003 Charlie hosted a 30th anniversary party to thank the city of Louisville for supporting him over the yeras. We had an incredible turnout and still have people talking about it. In the spring of 2008 we will be having a 35th anniversary party and memorial celebration. Look for more details to come in the next few months. 9/22/07 The rumor mill is running rampant. To dispel some rumors, Charlie passed peacefully Friday morning after a very sudden illness. The studios are not closing. Charlie has left us one hell of a legacy to live up to and we will live up to it. The name is staying the same, the artists are staying the same, and the tattooing is going to continue just as he wanted it to. Thank you all for your support over the last 2 weeks and we will always be here for you too. Over the next few weeks I will be posting some of the stories and memories of Charlie to a special page on the site here. watch for it and please feel free to contribute your own to buddy@tattoocharlies.com. 8/11/07 Due to the State Fair and maternity leave both piercers at Berry Blvd. will be off from August 15th to August 26th. Please visit our Preston Hwy. or Dixie Hwy. studios for any piercings or jewelry sales during those two weeks. 7/13/07 Happy Friday the 13th! We have another new artist to announce. Ronzo worked here for many years back in the 90’s then left for a while to pursue other interests. We are thrilled to welcome him back to our Preston Hwy. studio. He was and is an excellent artist and a wonderful tattooer. We are lucky to have him back. The state fair is coming up and we will have our booth in the new south wing where it was last year. Please stop by and register to win one of our gift certificates! 6/10/07 We would like to welcome our newest artist here at Tattoo Charlie’s. His name is Dave Hinkebein and he will be at the Berry blvd. studio Wednesdays through Sundays. Look for a site update with his portfolio in the coming weeks. Jason from the Shively studio no longer works here. We wish him well in wherever he goes from here. 6/2/07 Happy (almost) summer! The season is in full swing here and everyone is putting out some great quality tattoos. I want to remind everyone who gets a new tattoo this time of year of the importance of keeping them out of the sun for the first two weeks. The sun will fade a new tattoo faster than anything else so be careful! We will be closed on the 4th of July to honor our Independance Day. Buddy, Dave, and Denny have all updated their pictures on the site so check the nwe work out! Last but not least, Scott in our Lexington studio is no longer with us. We wish him all the best in whatever he does from here. 4/6/07 Our Shively Studio is temporarily closed. Please visit Jason and Tiffany at our Berry Blvd. studio. I (Buddy) will be on vacation starting April 12th as my wife is having a baby! I will be back on April 23rd barring no complications. We will be closed this Sunday for Easter. 3/16/07 Well it has been a while since an update. Things have been pretty hectic here and I have been struggling to keep up. We have a new artist at our Berry Blvd. studio. His name is Dave and he comes to us from Bardstown, KY. He has been tattooing for 4 years and does really nice, clean work. Come in and say hi to him sometime! We will be closed on Derby Day, May 5th. Everyone have a happy Derby Festival! 12/16/06 Only 1 week left to get your loved ones a gift certifiacte from Tattoo Charlie’s! Give the gift that they can’t lose, can’t be stolen or pawned. When you give the gift of a new tattoo you give a gift for life! We will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at all of our studios. We will reopen for regular hours on Tuesday, December 26. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! 11/28/06 Friday, December 1, 2006 all of our studios will be opening 1 hour late so all of our artists can take a continuing education class. It is the holiday season again and all of our studios have gift certificates available. They make great stocking stuffers and are the gift that never gets returned. 10/29/06 Jinx and Tiffany will be on vacation this upcoming week. They will be back to their regular schedules the week of November 6th. 10/15/06 Halloween is getting close! Don’t let your tattoo be the scariest part of your costume. We specialize in fixing up old tattoos or covering up mistakes of the past. Come in any time and talk to one of our artists and let us show you what we can do! Eric and Jeremiah are both on vacation this week. Chris will be working at Berry Blvd. and the South Dixie studio will be closed this week. 8/14/06 The State Fair is here! Look for our booth in the new south wing. Please stop by and show off your beautiful artwork! We will be giving away $500 in gift certificates this year so stop by and sign up! 7/30/06 Darin will be on vacation this upcoming week. Jinx will be working at Preston to cover for him. Darin will be back on Monday the 7th of August. 7/25/06 The Kentucky State Fair starts in 3 weeks! Be sure to find our booth in the South wing this year. All of the vender booths have been moved from the East wing to the South wing so they can remodel the East wing. We will be giving out gift certificates again this year so be sure to sign up! In more sad news, Kevin at Preston Hwy. no longer works for Tattoo Charlie’s. He is an excellent artist and a good friend and will be missed. We wish him the best of luck in the future. 7/5/06 First off I’d like to give a big “WELCOME BACK” to Mike Haney. Mike worked in our Lexington studio for 10 years before leaving for personal reasons. We are thrilled to have him back. He will be floating between the Berry Blvd. and the Shively studios for the next couple of weeks until we find him a permanent home. Now some sad news. Boda at Preston Hwy.no longer works for Tattoo Charlie’s. He is an excellent tattooer and a good friend. He will be missed. We wish him luck in the future. I (Buddy) will be on vacation from July 10th to July 20th. I will be back on the 21st. I will try to check emails during that time but Internent access may be a bit spotty where my wife and I are going. If you don’t get a response in a day or two, please just call one of the studios. 6/10/06 Summer is right on top of us! If you want those tattoos to stay beautiful please make sure to put sunblock on them every time you will be in the sun. If you haven’t already, sign up for the email list to recieve coupons and specials. Sometime in the next month or so we’ll be emailing out info on how you can win a free tattoo! We will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th to celebrate Independence Day. We will be open regular hours on Wednesday the 5th. 5/5/06 We will be closing at 8:00 tonight, Derby Eve, so all of our guys (and gals) can enjoy the Derby Eve festivities like everyone else in the city! We will be closed for Derby Day also and will be open regular hours on Sunday. Thanks and happy Derby Festival! 4/11/06 So, did we get anyone? Read the update below if you don’t know what I am talking about. Allright, we aren’t going out of business. Far from it in fact. This is a busy time of year for us! Spring is here and weather like todays will have a lot of people showing off their tattoos. One thing to remember is to always put sunscreen on your artwork. If you take care of your tattoos they will look good for the rest of your life. A little sunscreen goes a long way! One sad note, DJ no longer works here at Tattoo Charlie’s. We wish him well in whatever he plans to do now. We would also like to welcome a new piercer in our Lexington studio. Bill has been piercing for 8 years in Pennsylvania and we are lucky to have him working for us now. He works most evenings and all day Saturday and Sunday. Go see him and give him a warm Lexington welcome. 4/1/06 After 33 years in business, Tattoo Charlie’s is going to close forever. Join us today only for our going out of business sale. All tattoos and piercings are drastically reduced for immediate sale. We must clear out our inventory of tattoos. Everything must go! This sale is only good today and will never happen again. Thank you for the years of business and we’ll laugh about this next year on April Fools Day! 2/26/05 Only 3 weeks to Spring! Hopefully everyone has had a good winter so far. We have been busy these last few weeks with tax season in full swing. Especially on weekends, try to get to the studios early in the day to avoid a long wait. Any day you can arrive at 12:00 noon when the studios open, we can usually get you in without any wait at all. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to earn your business.
12/18/05 We are going through a personell change in our Lexington Studio. The piercer, Chris, no longer works here. For the time being, Buddy will be piercing in Lexington on Fridays and Saturdays starting the first of the year. Buddy will also e in Lexington piercing the 23rd, 30th and 31st of December. I appologize for the inconvenience. 11/26/05 I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! All Tattoo Charlie’s are open regular hours from here to Christmas Eve. We will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. All studios have gift certificates available in any denomination. They make great stocking stuffers! Please remember that there are many people less fortunate than you this holiday season. The Salvation Army is about the easiest way to help since they have doantion buckets at most retailers. The Angel Tree program is also a wonderful way to help needy kids have a great holiday.
11/5/05 Tiffany and Jinx have a baby boy! Congratulations to them! Boda will be on vacation the week of November 7-13th. He will back to work on the 16th of November. Kevin will be at a convention in Texas on November 13th and 14th. He will be back to work on the 17th. Charlie and I (Buddy) will be going to St. Louis for the Old School Tattoo Expo on November the 11th and 12th. I will be back to work on the 13th. I will also be on vacation from November 17th to the 24th. I will be back to work on the 25th. 10/22/05 I am happy to announce that Gary Bell is back! He will be working at the new studio in Shively across from Dillards Wednesday through Saturday. Stop in and see him for a great tattoo! Tiffany is officially on maternity leave. We wish her and Jinx all the best luck with their new baby. 10/11/05 We have a new piercer to welcome to the family. Her name is Shelley and she is from California. She has been piercing for 8 years and is very good at what she does. She will be covering Tiffany at the Shively studio while she is on maternity leave so stop in and see her!
9/2/05 Our deepest sympathies go out to the people in Louisiana and Mississippi and all others affected by Hurricane Katrina. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
8/8/05 Get ready, here it comes... Tattoo Charlie’s newest location will open on Saturday, August 13th. The location is on Dixie Hwy. right across from Dillards at the Watterson expressway. There will be food and fun so please stop in to help us celebrate!
6/25/05 All Tattoo Charlie’s locations will be closed Monday, July 4th. We will be open regular business hours the weekend leading up to and the week after. 5/21/05 Eric from the Berry Blvd. studio will be on vacation next week ( May 23 -29). He will be back on May 31 on his regular schedule. All 4 Tattoo Charlie’s locations will be closed on Monday, May 30 for Memorial Day Chris Gibson will be working at the Berry Blvd studio every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday for the near future. On a sad note, we are sorry to announce that Ben from the Shelbyville Rd. studio is no longer with us. He is moving back to Portland Oregon to attend to some family business. 5/13/05 Sorry for the lack of updates the last few weeks. My wife has had a herniated disk in her lower back so all of my time has been spent caring for her. For more on her surgery and recovery check out my page, Buddy. Last week we closed our Downtown studio and moved Chris Gibson to the Berry Blvd. location. Sadly, Gary Bell is no longer with us but we wish him well with whatever he does. Ben is also working out of the Berry Blvd. studio but look for a big announcement here over the next week or so.
4/15/05 We are sorry to announce that the Middletown studio will be closing as of Saturday the 16th of April. To our loyal customers who supported that studio, thank you for your business. Please check back here over the coming days to find out where Ben will be moving to. 4/9/05 Sorry for the lack of updates recently. Our computer with the web site builder on it crashed and I am just now getting everything back to working on it. Spring is here at last! It seemed like it was taking forever to get here since we had a couple of teaser days and then back to 30 degrees again. This is still a great time of year to get tattooed as the pools aren’t open yet. Don’t forget, after you get a tattoo or piercing you have to wait 2 weeks to get in a pool or hot tub with it. Everyone enjoy the great weather and hopefully we’ll see you soon!
12/27/04 All of us here at Tattoo Charlie’s hope you all had a great holiday. We will be open regular hours this week except for Friday when we will close at 8:00pm at all locations. 10/5/04 I am very sorry to announce that we have recently had 2 people leave our happy little home here. Aniela, one of the piercers at our Preston Hwy. studio has moved back to West Virginia for family reasons. Gretchen, a piercer and tattooer at our Shelbyville Rd. studio, has also left for family reasons and moved back to Louisiana. We will miss them both greatly. 8/31/04 And the winners are... $250 - Brandon Gardner of Fairdale Congratulations to the winners from the KY State Fair! We will be closed on Monday for Labor Day. All locations will be open regular business hours on Tuesday. 8/25/04 The Kentucky State Fair is upon us agian this year. If you are out there this year please stop by our booth and register to win a gift certificate for a free tattoo! We are giving away 3 gift certificates this year. A $250, a $150, and a $100 dollar gift certificate. We are on the back wall of the east wing in the same spot as we were last year. On a sad note, Chris D in our Lexington studio was in a bad car wreck a couple of weeks ago and broke his shoulder. He will be out of the studio for a couple of more weeks while he goes through physical therapy. Buddy from the Berry Blvd studio in Louisville will be filling in for Chris every Saturday in Lexington until he is well enough to return. . 6/28/04 Happy summer everyone! I have one exciting piece of news to relate. We are now taking appointments for cosmetic tattooing in Louisville! We finally got the building remodeled and everything is ready to go. Look for some before and after pictures to be posted soon also. Some vacation notes: Boda will be on vacation for two weeks starting today. He will be back on the July 14th. Eric will be on vacation the week of July 5th. DJ will be on vacation the week of July 26th. All of the Tattoo Charlie’s will be closed on Monday, July 12th for our annual summer vacation day. We will all be frolicking around Splashin’ Safari at Holiday World. 5/29/04 We will be closed on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. 3/8/04 So, just when it looked like spring was right around the corner it’s supposed to snow tonight! Ah, such is life in the Ohio Valley. Anyway, spring is just around the corner so right now is a great time to get tattooed. Remember that you have to keep a new tattoo or piercing out of the sun and out of swimming pools for at least two weeks. We have been getting a lot of E-mails lately about custom designing tattoos. If you are having trouble finding something you want, please come in and talk to one of our artists. We will be happy to help you custom design your next tattoo.
1/17/04 Thanks for looking at our web site. The pictures shown here on the artist pages are a very small sampling of what is available. We have over 60,000 designs in each of our studios or you are welcome to bring your own design. We do not charge any extra for custom work. Speaking of pricing, all of our designs are priced on the walls and in the racks. We do not play the games many studios do and price the designs by what we think you can afford. We keep everything right up front. So, if you are thinking of getting a new tattoo or your first tattoo, please come visit one of our studios. We will be happy to help you get exactly the tattoo you want.

Or you can do what my family did one year and drill a hole out of a 4X4 block of wood and roll up a gift certificate in it then wrap the wood. The look of surprise on someone’s face when they open a present and find lumber is priceless. 11/9/03 Tuesday November 11 is Veteran’s Day. It is honored on the 11th of November to celebrate the signing of the Armistice by the Germans which ended World War One. Please take a moment to thank any veterans in your family and any other veterans you know from any conflict. They have sacrificed much for us to have the freedoms we enjoy daily. 7/5/03 Thank you for looking at our web site. If there are any questions that aren’t answered here or if you have any comments, feel free to E-mail them to buddy@tattoocharlies.com. We want to remind everyone that already has a tattoo (or tattoos) from us to make sure to wear plenty of sun block this summer. After a tattoo is healed, the number one reason they lose their color and vibrance is sun exposure. What works really well is to take a cotton swab and dip it in you sun block. Use the cotton swab to outline your tattoo then color it in and you won’t end up with a big white splotch on your body. It protects the skin above the tattoo and keeps it looking like you just got it. If you haven’t seen it yet, the new Tattoo Charlie’s is open in Downtown Louisville now. Stop in and have a look around. It is a very large, open studio with lots of natural light from the display windows. The guys from the Clarksville studio are working there and would be happy to see some smiling faces. 7/1/03 All Tattoo Charlie’s locations will be closed in celebration of Independence Day. We will reopen at 12:00 noon on Saturday.
5/23/03 We will be closed on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday at all of our locations at 12:00 noon. Our Clarksville, IN studio will be closing in mid June. We will be moving this studio to Downtown Louisville at the corner of 1st & Market Sts. We appreciate all of the people in Southern Indiana who have visited our studio on Eastern Blvd. and hope you will make the trip across the bridge and visit our new studio. 5/9/03 The Dixie Hwy. studio is now open!!! Thank you for your patience while we were closed for remodeling. Please stop in and say hi to Jeremiah and Matt and let them know what you think of the new studio. They did a lot of hard work and put in a lot of hours over the last 4 weeks to make the studio as nice as it is. Let them know you appreciate it!
4/26/03 Thank you to all who attended our 30th Anniversary Party! We had a blast! We were hopeful that maybe 1000 people would show up. How surprised were we when around 2500 were there? Congratulations to those of you who won the gift certificates! Thanks to all who brought their bikes to the bike show and the cars to the car show. There were some real beauties there! If anyone has pictures they took at the party and would like to share them, please E-mail them to me or bring them by the studio so we can scan them in and we’ll post them to the web site here. Currently, our Dixie Hwy. studio is closed for remodeling. If you have been in that studio before be sure to stop in after another week or so and check out the new shop. We added onto the back of the building, built a new roof and tore down all of the inside walls to make the shop MUCH bigger. We are hoping to be back open the week after Derby so stop in and tell Jeremiah and Matt what you think! They have been putting in some seriously long hard hours and did a lot of the construction work in there while it’s closed and deserve a big thanks! All of the Tattoo Charlie’s studios will be closed this Saturday for the Kentucky Derby. We will reopen at noon on Sunday at the Berry Blvd. and Preston Hwy. studios. The Shelbyville Rd. and Clarksville studios are closed on Sundays and Mondays right now. Thanks again for your support over the last 30 years. We couldn’t do this without you!
3/22/03 Hello, we are all starting to get excited about our 30th anniversary party. Hopefully we will see many of you there. Anyone interested in participating in the car/bike show can click here to download an application. Please fill it out completely and fax it to (502) 366-9638 or bring it in to the Berry Blvd. studio. We will contact everyone shortly after receiving their application to discuss the details of setting up. The two bands that are confirmed to be playing are Farewell Soyuz and Sera Tonen. These are both great bands and we are grateful to them for donating their talents for our party. There should be one more band playing, we are just waiting to get confirmation from them. 1/25/03 Mini-update here: The 30th Anniversary Party will be held April 13, 2003 at Swiss Park on Preston Hwy. It’s 1 block north of Eastern Pkwy. There will be a car show with multiple categories, a bike show , free food, free door prizes, free tattoo gift certificates... The list goes on and on! Admission will be 1 toy for Toys for Tots or a small donation. Everyone is welcome to come help us celebrate!
